So much about the art of songwriting can be elusive, and there is certainly some kind of magic that must occur in order for a great song to appear. But, just like any craft, there are disciplines and exercises which can help the writer to engage, to hone their skills, jumpstart the creative process, and more easily tune in to inspiration.

During this two day workshop, participants will explore what makes songs work, and why, regardless genre or style. They will also help one another through constructive commentary on one another’s work, practice engaging in collaborative co-writing, and numerous other exercises which Jono will bring to the table. Most importantly, this will be fun.

These are, after all, only songs, so the process should be joyful.

There will also be a “homework” assignment, to be done during the evening between the two sessions. Once participants are registered for the workshop, they will receive an email with some things to consider in advance, and to prepare before arriving. Day two of the workshop will also coincide with “Songwriter Night“ at Whiskey Creek Zócalo , so all participants will be given the opportunity to perform their new work before a caring, and receptive audience.

About Jono Manson:
Jono Manson is a prolific singer-songwriter, instrumentalist, and producer, who started his first band at age seven and never looked back. During a storied career spanning over five decades he has played everywhere from the local dive to Madison Square Garden and has amassed a discography that includes major label and indie releases on three continents. Born and raised in New York City, he currently makes
his home in Santa Fe, NM, where he has put down deep roots in the local community, as a performer, educator, and organizer. He is the founder and chief engineer of “The Kitchen Sink” recording studio where he has produced albums for Grammy winners and local heroes alike. His songs are diverse and genre-bending and have been recorded by numerous artists, featured in major motion pictures on network television, as well as in national advertising campaigns.
